At our department, we are supporting on the one hand our national sport federations in developing, implementing and evaluating solutions for talent identification and development. On the other hand we evaluate the talent promotion system (or sub-systems) for junior elite sports, one topic within this field is the analysis of careers and pathways of successful athletes as well as of dropouts. We also try to transfer or deliver (scientific as well as practical) knowledge to coaches. One project in collaboration with HAN University (Netherlands) and Ghent University (Belgium) within this area for example aims to develop sport profiles to characterize and compare sports.

I wouldn’t talk about “research” when describing our work, because most of our work I kind of scientific support, without a clear research question but starting with a problem of sport practice. I only was editor of two books and published my PhD-thesis as a book for public sale. I was author or co-author for 15  book chapters/articles within edited books. And only published about 15 articles, almost all of them in German journals, because publishing within scientific community is not our focus.
