Background

In November 2019, research group SRM took part in a mission to Vietnam together with Hogeschool Zeeland, Hogeschool Van Hall Larenstein, Clear Rivers and Upp! Upcycling Plastic. The result of this mission is that plastic catchers are placed in a tributary of the Mekong.

The focus of the activities is now shifting to the circular processing of the collected plastic. Plastic sticks are one of the possible circular processing options. On May 16, 2019, SRM organized a working session together with partners from both the private and public sector to connect the different links in the plastic chain. This showed that recycling waste plastics from the environment is a challenge.

The current consortium is an extension of an earlier collaboration between HAN and Plastic Fantastic. By involving GoClean de Liemers, local plastics can be recycled, so that the chain from raw material to end product remains entirely local.
