Do you want to get a PhD in this subject? Come join the CHANGE project team at HAN University of Applied Sciences (UAS)!

What you will do

• You will be part of the CHANGE project, a collaboration of industrial and public partner organisations, with a focus on data-driven innovations for trailers that are used for the transportation of large or heavy cargo. You will spend time developing predictive maintenance algorithms and implementing data science solutions to optimize the use of electric energy from the battery of the trailer.
• You will work on preparing and carrying out PhD research in collaboration with JADS (Jheronimus Academy of Data Science) and TU/e
• Additionally, you can also be involved in related project activities, or teach in our Master Applied Data Science (Arnhem)
• You will be part of the Applied Data Science & AI section of the interdisciplinary practice-oriented research team in the HAN UAS School Academy of IT and Mediadesign

What we are looking for

• You have a recent master's degree in, or including, Data Science, AI, Computer Science, or similar, and general affinity with road freight transportation
• You are proficient enough in hands-on data science techniques to semi-independently develop advanced working prototypes as part of your PhD research. To do this we expect you to be able to write your own code in Python and/or a similar programming language. Familiarity with other related technologies such as git, Docker, and SQL is a bonus.
• You have basic knowledge of and a strong interest in applied subjects like data mining, deep learning, computer vision, data management, knowledge engineering, applied ontology, conceptual modelling, domain modelling, etc.
• You have a strong drive to do a PhD in an applied research context, and in collaboration with industrial and public partner organizations
• You have a pro-active attitude and work well in a team
• You are proficient in Dutch and English (for the latter, CEFR C1 level)

What we offer

• An interesting position as a PhD candidate in a dynamic applied sciences environment as part of an ambitious research programme
• A temporary contract for a period of one year, with a view to extension;
• A position as a Junior Researcher, for 0.8-1.0 FTE (depending on your preference)
• Your gross monthly salary will be € 5.019,73 max (cao-hbo schaal 10) based on a full-time assignment and experience
• 8% holiday bonus (vakantietoeslag) and a 13th month (8,3%)
• Good secondary employment benefits, including pension insurance (ABP), collective health insurance, (paid) parental leave, and a generous number of days off
• Possibilities to follow courses on various subjects, both academic (also at TUe and JADS) and professional (HAN).
