Interested in studying Communication at HAN? Want to know if you meet the admission requirements? Find out here. Also learn about the tuition fees, scholarships and the application process.
To be accepted into Communication at HAN, you need to meet 2 main admission requirements: your prior education and English fluency. It’s also important that Communication is the right choice for you. That’s why we ask you to do a course selection check.
You need one of the following certificates of secondary education:
- Dutch havo or vwo certificate
- International Baccalaureate
- Sekolah Menegah Atas (SMA)
- General Certificate of Secondary Education (GCSE-A level)
Your certificate is not mentioned here? No problem. Our admissions office decides if your prior education is sufficient.
Your certificate of secondary education needs to show good grades in mathematics.
You need to prove you have a sufficient level of English. We require one of the following:
- IELTS score of at least 6.0
- TOEFL score of 80 or higher (internet-based)
- Cambridge certificate: FCE Grade C minimum score 169 / CAE / CPE
If you take a TOEFL exam, you can ask ETS TOEFL to send us your score directly by using the HAN University of Applied Sciences code: 7832.
Matching is to make sure Communication at HAN is the right choice for you. How does it work? Apply for the program. After that we contact you about a Skype interview. After the interview we email you with 1 of 3 possible matching results:
Congratulations! Communication seems to be a good match for you.
2. Action required
You need to take some steps to prepare for your studies. By doing this, you increase your chances of success at HAN. The steps are not mandatory. They are recommendations, like working on your mathematics or talking to other students. Taking these steps is your own responsibility.
The program doesn’t seem to be a good match for you. Depending on when you applied, this could mean 2 things. You're advised not to enroll in Chemistry. Or you're excluded from enrolling in this program.

You’re invited for a Skype interview. This is to check whether the program is a good match for you.
You receive Matching advice by mail. Check this advice. It tells you if the program is a good match for you or not. In some cases we advise you not to enroll.
Received your acceptance letter? Paid your tuition fees? Then you are officially a HAN student! Not sure? Go to the HAN application portal to see the status of your documents/requirements.
A great opportunity to get to know your lecturers and classmates as well as the campus and city of Arnhem.
Tuition fee for Communication 2020-2021 academic year
|EU/EEA 1st-time student
Studying at a university or university of applied sciences in the Netherlands for the 1st time. Fee applies for 1 year only.
|EU/EEA continuing student
Have already been enrolled at any university or university of applied sciences in the Netherlands. Haven’t yet earned your bachelor degree.
|EU/EEA student with Dutch degree
Already earned a bachelor degree from Dutch university or university of applied sciences.
Nationality outside the EU/EEA
Financial guarantee (non-EU/EEA)
The cost of living in the Netherlands may be very different from in your home country. That’s why we ask you to pay a financial guarantee. This amount covers your tuition fee and your cost of living. Paying this ensures you have sufficient funds to live and study in the Netherlands. The financial guarantee is part of the visa process.

Interested in studying at HAN? Not sure how to raise the funds to pay the tuition fee? HAN offers 3 types of scholarships to talented international students. They are offered in collaboration with the Dutch Ministry of Education and Science.
