Analysis of a Savas driver seat
One of the innovative products of Savas Quality Seatings is the Columbus forklift seat. This seat is different from conventional seats in that the airspring and damper are situated behind the backrest, resulting in an advantageous lower position of the forklift driver.
Analysis of a Savas driver seat
The Savas Columbus forklift seat has superior comfort properties at the low frequency range. In the higher frequency range, between 5 and 15 Hz, Savas was interested in the possible improvement of the vibrational response by tuning the model parameters such as position, dimensions, orientation, and stiffness.
As a first step, a model was derived and validated by experiments, which relates the seat response to a vertical disturbance input. Due to the specific design, horizontal, vertical and pitch behaviour of seat and driver had to be taken into account. By varying the design parameters separately as well as in combination, the impact and the sensitivity of these potential modifications were investigated first. In the following step, the seat was modified according to the most promising simulation results.
