Updated HAN Master of International Business
It is imperative for any enterprise to stay in touch with its market. So it was only logical for the Masters degree course in International Business to conduct a thorough market survey last year. The survey involved students, large enterprises and small businesses, and regional knowledge institutes such as the Chamber of Commerce and SME organisations. The result: a Masters degree course that has incorporated all current developments on the international market into its curriculum. A deliberate decision was also made to focus on entrepreneurship and innovation: the key success factors for businesses on the current international market.
A Master of International Business has a helicopter view
Internationalisation has a major impact on every aspect of business. Finance, logistics, marketing, human resources policy: everything changes when a business embarks on an international adventure. The students of the Masters degree course learn how to properly prepare for that big move and how to make realistic estimates of the risks. Tjeu Verhagen explains, ‘A graduate of the Master of International Business has a helicopter view of the entire process of internationalisation and has the skills to prepare a thorough and realistic business plan. He or she learns to adjust to the complexity of day-to-day business and to respond to economic circumstances. Our graduates know what actions are required during an economic boom as well as during a recession and can seize the opportunities presented by cultural differences.’
International expertise from the field
Doing business in the international theatre is all about cooperation, about finding partners and about the ability to empathise with people in the countries that the company has targeted. To prepare students for this, the course works with lecturers from the international business community who have gained their expertise in the field. Federico Cantero of Mexico, a graduate of the course, says about the instructors, ‘That practical approach was what I appreciated most.’ The professional advisory committee also ensures that the programme matches developments in the international business world. The members of the committee themselves are either active international entrepreneurs or have obtained the necessary expertise through analysis and research.
Cooperation and expertise
The course’s broad area of expertise connects it to no fewer than three research groups: ‘Entrepreneurship’, ‘Innovation in the private sector’ and ‘Logistics and Alliances’. The course also calls on the experience and expertise of partner institutions: Radboud University Nijmegen, the University of Groningen, Fachhochschule Gelsenkirchen and Caledonian Business School Glasgow.
