International projects
The HAN University of Applied Sciences participates in many international projects.
Faculty of Education strengthens ties with faculty in Marrakech
The directors of HAN's two faculties of education and the director of the faculty in Marrakech (Morocco) signed an agreement for collaboration on 1 February 2011. This marks the beginning of a far-reaching collaboration and exchange between the two institutes in the area of education.
The goals of the collaboration are to:
• Exchange work procedures
• Exchange ideas about teaching methods
• Stimulate and carry out practice-oriented research
• Stimulate an intercultural view of society (including history, literature and art)
In order to achieve these goals we will organise annual study trips to Marrakech. Students and teachers alike will be invited to take part.
HAN has created a Facebook site to help prepare for the various workshops. Participants will also be given the opportunity to follow an intensive course in French. This project, ‘Education sans Frontières’, gives a great boost to a key issue here at HAN: far-reaching internationalisation. Learn more: http://blog.han.nl/marrakech/ (in Dutch)
Tanzania Project
Several lecturers of the Faculty of Business and Management have been participating in an NPT project in Tanzania since 2007. The aim of this project, sponsored by the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs, is to assist the College of Business Education in Dar es Salaam in making the transition to applying competence based and modular curricula. An enthusiastic team of senior lecturers has recently had a series of visits to the College in Tanzania to provide teacher training and consultancy in restructuring existing curricula.
Theewaterskloof Project
In May 2003 the HAN University of Applied Sciences and the University of the Western Cape in South Africa established a community development project in Theewaterskloof Municipality (SA) as part of a bilateral co-operation.
The idea of this project is to provide students from both universities with valuable service learning experiences. The project activities focus on social and economic development in rural areas in a way that benefits local communities. The main aim is to develop small businesses that help people support their families and become self-sufficient.
Because of the multidisciplinary nature of the project, all departments of both universities are involved in carrying out project activities, teaching or research. Some encouraging results have already been achieved. HAN students collaborated with women in the settlement of Rooi Dakke to restore a community arts and crafts centre. The focus here was on producing and successfully marketing the products made in the centre.
Vietnam Project
HAN University of Applied Sciences has also been involved as a consortium partner in a project funded by the Dutch Government in Vietnam, through the Nuffic-NPT channel. The project’s main aim is to strengthen higher education in Vietnam by striving to achieve a better level of competition with other countries in the region.
To achieve this the project focuses on the development of Quality Assurance Systems at 5 universities through the establishment of Quality Assurance Centre’s. The project activities include workshops and training on the job, study visits, conferences, the development of a higher education quality assurance framework, instruments, procedures and protocols, and the implementation of pilot studies at institutions.
